These 100% cotton ropes reduce rope burn and splinters.\u00a0 Professional tug of war competitions like to use manila ropes but for a family reunion I suggest cotton ropes. Ropes like this one can cost between $150.00- $200.00 but I think you\u2019ll find it\u2019s an activity that can be used every year and adapted to every theme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/camp-2014-moms-house-1601.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"camp 2014 mom's house 160\" src=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/camp-2014-moms-house-160_thumb1.jpg\" alt=\"camp 2014 mom's house 160\" width=\"378\" height=\"257\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Preparing the tug of war rope<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/trek-2014-138.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"trek 2014 138\" src=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/trek-2014-138_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"trek 2014 138\" width=\"338\" height=\"231\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Find the center of your rope and mark with a piece of colorful tape or a bandana. Make a center mark on the ground for your starting point. You can make your marks with logs, ropes or create obstacles such as water or a mud puddle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/trek-2014-178.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"trek 2014 178\" src=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/trek-2014-178_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"trek 2014 178\" width=\"356\" height=\"243\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Make two more marks on the ground\u00a0 (I suggest 13 feet) equal distance from the center line.<\/p>\n<p>The teams start with the rope&#8217;s center line directly above the line marked on the ground.\u00a0 We like to\u00a0 start with the rope on the ground and have the official\/judge tell the participants to \u201cpick up the\u00a0 rope\u201d before the contest begins.\u00a0 When the official gives the order to \u201cpull\u201d teams begin pulling in an attempt to pull\u00a0 the other team across the center line or obstacle.<\/p>\n<h2>Tug of War Hints<\/h2>\n<p>Never make a loop by wrapping the rope around the hand to get a better grip.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t tie the rope around the last persons waist.<\/p>\n<p>On your family reunion invitation add \u201cgloves\u201d on their list\u00a0 of things to\u00a0 bring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/camp-2014-moms-house-1701.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"camp 2014 mom's house 170\" src=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/camp-2014-moms-house-170_thumb1.jpg\" alt=\"camp 2014 mom's house 170\" width=\"372\" height=\"253\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that tug of war was <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tug_of_war_at_the_Summer_Olympics\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">part of the Olympic Games<\/span><\/a> from 1900 until 1920.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New and improved is not better than tried and true!
