{"id":299,"date":"2010-11-14T19:16:31","date_gmt":"2010-11-14T19:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/gum-drop-turkey-favors\/"},"modified":"2010-11-14T19:16:31","modified_gmt":"2010-11-14T19:16:31","slug":"gum-drop-turkey-favors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/gum-drop-turkey-favors\/","title":{"rendered":"Gum Drop Turkey Favors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve searched all over the internet for gun drop turkeys as cool as the ones my brothers and I made when we were growing up, but it appears those turkeys were one of a kind creations from my Mom.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_1374.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px\" title=\"DSC_1374\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_1374\" src=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_1374_thumb.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>My Mom always put her four children in charge of making the 30- 50 gum drop turkey favors for our Thanksgiving family gathering.&#160; The turkeys were so simple to make that we required no supervision and popping a few raisins or candy corns in our mouth as we were creating them took the edge off our Thanksgiving hunger.&#160; In fact, making gum drop turkeys soon became a tradition at my house when I had children of my own.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<a href=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/sundayNov14th233.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px\" title=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/sundayNov14th233_thumb.jpg\" width=\"184\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Over the years I exchanged the raisins we used to use for Craisens and brown toothpicks for brightly colored ones.&#160; Hint- always use Braches candy corns- they are softer and don\u2019t crumble as easily when you stick a toothpick in them.&#160; Large gum drops can be difficult to find, but after extensive searching, I was able to find some on the bottom shelf, hidden behind a garbage can, (no kidding) on the Wal-mart candy isle.<\/p>\n<p>As I was writing this blog, my 32 year old son walked into the kitchen where I was taking pictures and said, \u201cGum drop turkeys,&#160; I remember making those!\u201d&#160; Just proves that something doesn\u2019t have to be expensive, complicated or elaborate to make a lasting family memory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_1375.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px\" title=\"DSC_1375\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSC_1375\" src=\"http:\/\/familyreunionhelper.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DSC_1375_thumb.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Gobble, Gobble, Gobble!<\/p>\n<p>Aunt MO<\/p>\n<p>May your stuffing be tasty   <br \/>May your turkey plump,    <br \/>May your potatoes and gravy    <br \/>Have nary a lump.    <br \/>May your yams be delicious    <br \/>And your pies take the prize,    <br \/>And may your Thanksgiving dinner    <br \/>Stay off your thighs!<\/p>\n<p> &#8211; Author unknown  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve searched all over the internet for gun drop turkeys as cool as the ones my brothers and I made when we were growing up, but it appears those turkeys were one of a kind creations from my Mom.
